U.S. Embassy in India Holds Another “Super Saturday” to Further Reduce Visitor Visa Wait Times

The U.S. Mission to India has announced another “Super Saturdays” in an attempt to reduce wait times for Indian applicants and meet the growing demand for tourist visas. A high backlog of Indian visas has been observed hence the U.S. Embassy is seeing making this attempt which aims at faster visa processing to address this issue, especially for those requesting B1/B2 visas, which are necessary for travel to the United States for business, pleasure, and family reunions.ย

Why is โ€œSuper Saturdayโ€ Important?

Wait times have been an issue for first-time applicants for US tourist visas (B1/B2). To handle more in-person visa interviews, the US Embassy in New Delhi and its Consulates in Mumbai, Chennai, Kolkata, and Hyderabad are working longer hours, particularly on weekends like as “Super Saturday.”ย

The measure comes after a dramatic spike in post-pandemic visa applications. The US Mission in India processed a record 1.4 million visas in 2023 alone, a 60% increase from the previous year. Even with these efforts, tourist visa wait periods remain considerable; depending on the consulate location, they can vary from 430 to 500 days.ย

Key Improvements in Visa Processing

To tackle these delays, the U.S. Mission has taken multiple steps:ย

  • Increased Staffing: To speed up the visa application process, more staff members have been assigned.ย
  • Additional Appointments: Weekend slots are made available to applicants through special programs like “Super Saturdays.”ย
  • Technical Innovations: Operations have been made more efficient through process and digital innovations.ย

Since early 2023, these actions have already resulted in a 75% decrease in appointment wait times, which is encouraging for Indian tourists arranging their visits to the US.ย

What Does This Mean for Indian Travelers?

“Super Saturday” offers Indian nationals who want to go to the United States for business, pleasure, or family vacations a great chance to reserve early interview times. The U.S. Mission hopes to minimize the backlog and accommodate more candidates by expanding access on weekends.ย

Tips for Applicants:ย

  • Book Early: Begin the visa application procedure as soon as you can.ย
  • Stay Updated: To find out when appointments are available, visit the U.S. Embassy website often.ย
  • Be Prepared: To prevent delays, make sure all application information and supporting paperwork are correct.ย

In an effort to better assist Indian applicants for visas, the U.S. Mission launched the “Super Saturday” campaign. This action is anticipated to provide relief to thousands of travelers who are organizing their trip to the United States, as ongoing efforts are made to optimize operations and shorten wait times.ย ย
